In August 2016, The Salvation Army will once again be partnering with More Than Gold to provide various service opportunities during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Opportunities for service will include partnering with The Salvation Army’s 6 Corps in Rio on various local projects and outreach initiatives during the games.
A few things to note:
- This opportunity is open to Corps’ and Divisional teams. The Salvation Army in Rio is committed to doing their best to tailor your mission trip around your groups’ size and skills.
- The available dates for the mission trips are broken down into two blocks. Block A is August 3-13 and Block B is August 13-23. All groups must complete a team and individual registration form with a selected Block no later than Monday, February 29th, 2016 to secure their spots. The earlier your team registers, the better chance you have in securing your selected block.
- The cost per person is $30 (USD) per day. This includes all meals and daily/nightly accommodations. There is a $150 (USD) registration fee for all team members which includes a registration pack. The registration pack provides team members with an official T-Shirt, accreditation badge, water bottle, and various souvenirs. This totals $450 (USD) per person for a 10 day block. All mission trip costs including flights to/from Rio De Janeiro are the team’s responsibility. Airfare is especially high during the Olympics so teams are encouraged to consider alternatives such as flying into Sao Paulo and taking a bus to Rio de Janeiro to help save costs.
- US Passport holders will be required to obtain a Tourist Visa to visit Brazil.
If you or your Corps are interested in more info or potentially sending a team, be sure to contact your Corps Officer by November 1st to begin receiving more information as it becomes available.
