Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away which for many of us means homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, stuffing, and of course TURKEY! Yum!
For others, Thanksgiving can be an especially difficult time. It can serve as a reminder of the ongoing struggle to provide even a basic meal for their family.
The Salvation Army works to provide hope and meals to families struggling to eat year round and the holidays are no exception. There are many ways we can get involved and help make sure as many families as possible can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. Here are a few ideas to consider getting involved in as we approach Thanksgiving:
- Volunteer to help pack Thanksgiving food boxes at your Corps.
- Organize a food drive to contribute to Thanksgiving food boxes. Be mindful of the types of food you collect and try your best to contribute nutritious foods.
- Find out if your Corps will be hosting a community Thanksgiving meal and if so, volunteer to help.
- Invite a friend to your own Thanksgiving celebration. If you know someone who may not have family to spend Thanksgiving with, consider inviting them to spend Thanksgiving with your family.
